The Homestead

Homesteads are a rare opportunity to build your own custom built home in a neighborhood with other families who respect the same values of independence and community that you do. This is a place where your home will be a destination, not competing with other homes in a way that has become commonplace in many newer estate suburban communities. Whether you are looking for a place to live, or just want a beautiful setting to spend your vacation, the Homestead offers everything you need to make your dream a reality.

The name “homestead” is derived from the practice of homesteading, which is a type of agricultural living arrangement that involves a person owning and farming their own piece of land while being self-sufficient and not depending on any outside sources for food or supplies. The Homestead Act, which was passed in the US in 1862, allowed settlers to claim land under this principle and live as independent homesteaders.

Today’s homesteaders can enjoy the benefits of the old-fashioned homestead lifestyle with modern amenities and a variety of exciting outdoor activities. The Homestead resort in Leelanau County is a perfect example of this, with its pristine beaches, mile-long beach spa and salon services, golf courses, sand volleyball courts, granular surface tennis courts, watercrafts, restaurants and meeting facilities, and a variety of other activities that are sure to delight visitors.

Rustic but entirely modern, the Homestead includes amenities like USB outlets, smart thermostats and solar screens to help residents live comfortably in their beautiful log home. It also features a 24/7 gym, an off-leash dog park and a pool with spectacular views of the surrounding forest.

A wide verandah is a key feature of the Homestead, and was designed to allow for a breeze while keeping the house cool. A great place to entertain guests, the verandah is a space that will last for generations to come.

The Homestead is a unique and rare community of multi-acre independent residential properties woven together to form a shared vision for life today in a way that has not been seen for decades. Choose from a number of different homestead designs to create the perfect space for your family.
The Cabin

A cabin is a rustic dwelling that sits in front of a picturesque backdrop like a refreshing water body, a beautiful mountain range or a scenic forest. While a house is any building you live in with your family, a cabin is usually a temporary vacation home that’s used for a relaxing getaway. Because of this, they tend to be less refined than a traditional house.

Most cabins feature a gable roofline, which helps them blend in with their natural setting. They also commonly feature a front porch to create a cozy, welcoming feel for guests. Originally, the term “cabin” was used to refer to simple dwellings built by hand rather than by professional builders. These original structures were more functional than architecturally significant. Today, a modern log cabin is built to be aesthetically pleasing and function as a full-time living space with the conveniences of contemporary design.

Log cabins can be constructed from several different construction types. Handcrafted log homes use hand-carved logs that retain their shape and natural uniqueness. Milled logs are precision cut to a standard size and are stacked together by tongue-and-groove or an interlocking style that’s similar to a jigsaw puzzle (photo credit: CC BY-SA 3.0).  Historical sites  combine both techniques for an even more varied and unified look.

Regardless of construction method, all cabins offer the opportunity to enjoy nature’s beauty through large windows that allow for ample sunlight throughout a home’s interior. Wood floors and trim help to accentuate the natural appearance of these homes, and they also pair well with other rustic materials. Many of the modern log cabins we build feature different shades of wood in their kitchen cabinets and countertops.

Whether you’re looking for a cabin to use as your primary residence or a place to relax with friends and family, Timber Wolf Handcrafted Log Homes has the perfect solution for your needs. The Cottage

Originally used to describe secondary dwellings on land that was farmed by a person who paid rent or worked in exchange for the right to live on it, cottages have evolved today into a unique home style that offers an eclectic mix of cozy comforts and timeless charm. Cottage house plans often feature a blend of natural details, creative exterior architecture, and open floor plan designs that make the most of limited space.

Cottages are generally one or 1 1/2 story homes with gable roofs and small porches that welcome you in. The style often lends itself to a range of architectural influences from the Arts and Crafts movement and bungalows, to Georgian, Tudor, and Victorian styles.

The cozy charm of cottage-style homes is a big draw for many homeowners. These designs tend to have a light, airy feel inside with the use of natural colors and materials that give them an earthy appeal. Wood floors provide the perfect backdrop for statement furniture pieces and a variety of textures are often used including wool, burlap, and linen. A mix of new and old, expensive and thrifted finds are all typical of this decorating style.

Many cottage homes also incorporate decorative molding and trim that highlights the sloping ceilings inside rooms, giving them a unique character. They’re a great option for anyone seeking a quiet retreat or for families who want to enjoy time together in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Because of their cozy appeal, cottage-style homes typically have smaller bedrooms and bathrooms compared to other housing types. They also tend to have a limited number of formal living spaces but the layouts often feature an efficient flow between rooms and highlight the importance of family living.

Unlike other housing types, cottages seldom offer large foyers or separate transition spaces from the outside to the interior of the home. However, they’re usually designed to include front landings that greet guests and offer a warm and welcoming feeling.

Cottage decorating is personal and forgiving, with room for a variety of textures and mixed finishes. Neutral or soft pastel colored fabrics work well with a variety of floral patterns and repurposed furnishings like second-hand furniture and hand-me-downs from family members. Throw rugs and blankets draped over sofas add warmth and cozy appeal.
The Barn

The barn is a type of farm building that is typically timber framed and painted red. It is often used to store livestock and farm equipment. It can also be used as a place to hold social events. A barn is a common feature of rural America and can be found in many communities throughout the United States.

The Barn is an ideal place to hold a wedding reception, class reunion, business meeting or other special event. It can seat up to 160 guests and features beautiful hardwood floors and a high stone foundation. The Barn offers a variety of amenities, including a custom cedar cupola and tongue and groove siding. The interior features Euro style stalls, a tack room, feed room, wash stall and laundry room. The barn is also equipped with a center aisle that is covered with tumbled cobblestone.

Our Barn model comes with a lower hip roof that opens up on piano hinges for easy play. It has two sides that open up for pens or feeders and real gates with hook-n-eyes to keep the animals in and out. It also includes a removable haymow door and plenty of windows for realistic play.

The Barn is a great place to host bible studies, small groups, fellowships and more. The facility is also available to ministers for use during their furlough or if they need a retreat away from home.
